Even more startling was when I finally plucked up the courage to step on the scale. Now, I've always been a big girl, but I've also always been in pretty good shape. Standing there, waiting for the number to register (with my eyes closed, no less), was more nerve wracking than waiting for a pregnancy test to change!
I'm going to be very frank about my weight here, so I'm hoping that I won't receive poor feedback regarding the posting of actual numbers. This is going to be a journey through my issues with exercise, food, and sometimes trying to balance that with the parenting of a child with Williams Syndrome.
I tipped the scales at 255! Never, not in my entire life, had I ever thought that I could be so heavy! It was a terribly sobering moment, and my husband and I both knew that the time to make a change had come.
I decided that I would shoot for a goal weight of 145, because it's a nice middle ground between what the doctor says I should weigh (BMI my ass--I'm built like a man), and what I know from my past adult weight levels. My senior year of high school found me at 169 pounds, and that was quite a nice weight for me. I had a little arm flab, and was slightly soft around the middle, but I still looked like a woman.
My goal is not to be a body builder, nor am I looking to be like G.I. Jane. My aspiration is to live long enough to watch my son grow old; to protect him for as long as I can. As big as I've become, all I'm doing is ensuring the shortening of my lifespan. Looking hot in a a burlap sack would be nice, too. Just sayin'!
So, let's keep it light, and let's keep it fun.
Short Term Goals:
- Buy a treadmill for the days when going out isn't practical
- Continue the transition into minimalist shoes (already well-underway)
- Be thankful for every pound that I lose
The prize for reaching my goal will be a seventy-five gallon aquarium, with a solid wood cabinet stand, plant lights, and a fluval canister filter. I find fish to be a very relaxing part of my life, and I absolutely can not live without them. Having a show-tank of my own would really be special. Giving my babies a bigger, more swanky house would mean a lot to me.
I was thinking that we could maybe get parts to the tank as we go along, so that it keeps me motivated, and doesn't break the bank all at once. That's something I'll discuss with my husband more at length, as it becomes relevant.
Pictures of my weight loss jars, soon to come. :)
